Northwest Senior Services Board presents outstanding Legislator Awards!
The Northwest Senior Services Board (NWSSB), advisory board to the Northwest Regional Council, the Area Agency on Aging for Island, San Juan, Skagit and Whatcom Counties, has recently presented three area legislators with the Board’s Outstanding Legislator Award.
US Congressman Rick Larsen, State Senator Dale Brandland (42nd Legislative District) and State Representative Kelli Linville (42nd Legislative District) were recently presented their awards by the NWSSB Chair, Gil Thurston of Bellingham.
The Board voted to honor these three legislators because of their exceptional efforts over several years supporting seniors and their families through their work in their respective legislative bodies.
“As the number of citizens 65 and over will double in our county within the next 20 years, we need to find ways to assist seniors to stay as independent as possible for as long as possible,” said Mr. Thurston. “These legislators were recognized by the Northwest Senior Services Board because they have worked to build and support the necessary system of services to help seniors stay active and healthy in their own homes and communities, as opposed to hospitals and nursing homes. These services also prove cost effective, by preventing or delaying costly institutional care.”
